Dear Friends in Ward 7:
School closures have been the dominant topic of discussion during the campaign for Ward 7 – Hamilton Central Mountain Public School Trustee.
In my recent opinion piece in the Hamilton Spectator, I touch on the ongoing issues created by school closures in our communities, but I also wanted to highlight some of the very positive changes that I would work for in public education if elected.

Here are a few excerpts:
Despite the challenges, I am still excited about opportunities for public education in Hamilton.
For me, the question has changed from “Which schools will close?” to “How do we prevent this from happening again?”
…when I look at my children’s school and others, I see excellent education from quality teachers, a strong parent community and passionate neighbourhoods.
There is challenging work ahead: facilitating upcoming transitions for students; managing transportation issues created by boundary changes; ensuring positive and inclusive learning environments; effectively incorporating new technologies (such as iPads) into the classroom.
I am running for Ward 7 public school board trustee because I see wonderful new opportunities for public education in Hamilton.
Sincerely,
Dawn Danko
