Dear Friends in Ward 7:
The HWDSB Interim Budget Financial Report confirms that 161.5 more JK-3 students enrolled in 2013/14 than projected – and here is the reason: “primarily due to growth in full day kindergarten.”

HWDSB Enrollment Data Proves Incorrect
24 schools switched to full day kindergarten in 2013 – so that is an average of 7 additional JK students per school higher than the Board’s enrollment projections!
In small community schools, this bump in kindergarten students carried through the years would effect total enrollments by 15%.
Exactly what neighbourhoods across the Central Mountain have been telling HWDSB staff – enrollments at Queensdale, Linden and Eastmount Park are artificially low because they are the only three schools in the Central Mountain ARC that do not currently have full day kindergarten.
The Secondary School enrollment projections were also wrong by 207 students – raising more questions about the closure of Hill Park Secondary School.
